November: Stupid Browser Tricks
On Monday, November 25, 1996 EPICUG met in the Hondius Room of
the Estes Park Library at 7:00 P.M. The November meeting was facilitated by Lee Lasson, an
area network consultant and owner of Estes Park On-Line. Lee lead the meetings
discussion topic "Stupid Browser Tricks." Did you know that in the Windows
Netscape Browser you can press CTL-ALT-F and go automatically to the Amazing Fish Cam? Not
all the tricks will be as stupid as that, but you are sure to learn more tricks and tips
about Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer than you can shake a stick at! In
fact some of what will be covered could prove valuable in your everyday use of the
browser. That is BROWSER not BOWSER, so no dogs please!

October: The
Easiest Way To Create Web Pages
On Wednesday, October 16, 1996 EPICUG will meet in the
Hondius Room of the Estes Park Library at 7:00 P.M. The October meeting will be presented
by Lee Lasson who will demonstrate Microsofts
FrontPage HTML Authoring and Web Publishing software. FrontPage is
What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) software that works like a word processor creating
HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML) that is the stuff web pages are made of. This is
absolutely the easiest and most powerful way to create your web pages. Lee will provide
step by step training on how to create your own web site with this powerful and
revolutionary software and hell explore many of the features that make it Lees
preferred HTML editor.
We met in
Oct. and here is a picture of the group.

September: Internet Terminology
On Wednesday, September 18, 1996 EPICUG met in the Hondius Room of the Estes Park Library at 7:00 P.M. Eric Meyer
presented "Internet Terminology." The first hour focused on how a PC works, both
from the hardware perspective and then from the software side. The second hour was about
how the Internet works. The emphasis throughout was on "how it fits together",
in contrast to a lot of the EPICUG meetings that have focused on "how to use
it".
Eric Meyer has been getting paid to work with computers since 1978. He
has lived in Estes Park since 1984. His formal education was at the University of Iowa,
MIT, and the Wang Institute. His real education has been at a variety of high-tech jobs in
Boston and the Colorado Front Range. He is currently working on Unix kernel internals for
a Unisys group based in Salt Lake City, commuting as far as Longmont physically and the
rest of the way in cyberspace.
Check out the Power Point Slides in HTML.

August: Internet Questions and Answers
We had an informal but very informative Question and Answer period
covering a variety of Internet and computer topics. Eric Blackhurst also reported his
progress on incorporating EPICUG. He and Lee Lasson signed the paperwork to complete the
incorporation and register us with the State of Colorado, and request the Federal Employee
Identification Number (EIN). Also, the proposed EPICUG bylaws
are online for your review. Eric is still acting as our treasurer and is collecting our
$12/year dues.
We also demonstrated and discussed several Internet topics, including: Microsoft's Internet
Explorer 3.0; Microsoft NetMeeting
(this was especially fun, as we conversed verbally, text chatted, and shared an
application with a fellow in Colorado Springs who happened to be online the same time we
were); Microsoft SiteBuilder; PointCast; and NicoMak Computing's WinZip.

July 1996 Meeting
The July meeting was not held.

Bill Ward, founder and president of Front Range Internet, Inc. (FRII) of Fort Collins, gave an
excellent presentation on what FRII has to offer Front Range Internet subscribers.
Eric Blackhurst reports that his
efforts to develop by-laws and incorporate EPICUG are ongoing and should be complete later
this summer. Eric is the EPICUG treasurer and the person to send your $12 yearly dues to.
We regret to report that this was Al Howard's last meeting. Al has
been an enthusiastic member of the Estes Park computer community and of our group. Best
wishes to Al as he and his family move to Bend, Oregon, and many thanks for all you've
done for us!

Mike Molloy gave a well-received presentation on Web Graphics to about
35 attendees. During the second part of his presentation, Mike took a video snapshot of the meeting's attendees. The group also
interactively designed (using Photoshop) the new EPICUG logo you see above!
David Steiner, Vice
President of the Estes Park Museum Board of Directors, requested any interested Webmasters
to contact him about doing the Estes Park Museum home pages to
preserve the history of Estes on the web for generations to come. If you're wanting to
become a webmaster, here's a great project!

April Meeting
Windows 95 Internet Access Setup by Lee
Lasson, On-Line Consulting
Getting on the Internet and Keeping Your Sense of Humor Intact
by Peter Marsh, pwm@csn.net.

Our second meeting Wednesday, March 20, 1996, 7:00 PM, Estes Park
Library was pretty much the same content as the first meeting. Over 50 people attended!

The First Meeting!
Our first meeting of EPICUG was 2/27/96. The projection system and the
big screen TV both failed to work so it was hard for the appoximately 30-40 in attendence
to see the screen. So if you missed seeing the slides (everyone who wasn't in the first
row), here are the slides you missed. Likewise, I heard from many who were not able to
make the meeting so the slides will help you know what you missed.
