This is just a quick reminder about the special program this Thursday at 6:30 in the Hondius Room at the Library.  The program is a joint presentation of The Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center and the Estes Park Internet and Computer Users Group, and features speakers Adam Shake, Lee Lasson and Cassie Lasson.  To read more about the speakers and the program topics, please see the original post.  Keep in mind that this program starts a half hour earlier than our normal meetings, and requires registration on the Library’s website (instructions given in the original post).  If you have any trouble registering, please let me know.  See you Thursday!

The Estes Park Nonprofit Resource Center and the Estes Park Internet and Computer Users Group are excited to present a program on social media for businesses and nonprofits.  Please note the earlier than normal start time.

Adam Shake from Neanderthal Productions will open the program with his Top 10 Social Media Tips for Nonprofits/Businesses. Participants will learn:

• the difference between social media for business and personal use
• how to engage customers and clients
• how to find influencers in your industry
• the three most engaging types of updates
• and much more.

In addition, Lee Lasson, President of FrontDesk, Inc. will discuss why you should consider using WordPress as part of your social media strategy and Cassie Lasson, Vice President and Chief Creative Officer will discuss customizing WordPress, Facebook, and Twitter sites.

After these presentations, Adam, Lee and Cassie will be joined by several other savvy social media marketers for a question and answer session. Don’t miss this opportunity to see how you can start or improve your social media presence.

Cassie Lasson and Lee Lasson of FrontDesk, Inc. will present a travel blog of their experiences in Austin, Texas at the South by Southwest (SxSW) Interactive 2013 conference. SxSW Interactive is all about interactive experiences on the web, mobile, for real, and sometimes surreal! You’ll have to see MakerBots making, robots talking, and hear of responsive design trends. Lee and Cassie listened to Sir Tim Berners-Lee the inventor of the World Wide Web talk about HTML5 and the future. They listened to Steven Wolfram inventor of Wolfram Alpha talk about the computational future, Elon Musk of Space X talk about the trials and tribulations of gambling on the space future. They listened to Tina Roth Eisenberg, the swissmiss talk about her design blog and how it led to other entrepreneurial experiences. They laughed at Matthew Inman of the Oatmeal give an outrageous talk and it goes on… and they’ll share some of all the great presentations with a look at Austin.

Rembinder…  Tomorrow night, Monday March 4, EPICUG will meet at 7:00 PM in the Hondius Room at the Estes Valley Public Library to discuss “useful” mobile apps. Bring your favorite utility apps to share with the group – iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, or BlackBerry 10.  Games and entertainment apps will be discussed at a later meeting. Like all EPICUG events, this meeting is free and open to the public.

This Thursday, February 28 in the Hondius Room at the Estes Valley Public Library, EPICUG members and the public are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate in the first annual EPICUG:\TECH\SWAP. If you have outgrown the need for a piece of technology in your life, bring it to the Library. If you need a piece of technology, come look for it – if you don’t find it, you’ll definitely find something irresistible.

Rough Schedule & Terms

SETUP 7:00 – Bring your items for swapping. Do not show up early, there will be ample time for setup. Tables will be provided. Some power extension cords and power strips will be provide, but feel free to bring your own. Suitable items include: computers, displays, laptops, printers, scanners, other accessories, electronic games, cameras and accessories, telephones, iPods, other mobile devices, cables, tech-related books. not-installed-software, manuals, unwanted Christmas gifts, etc. Do not bring items that you are not willing to part with.

ROUND-THE-CIRCLE 7:15± – You have the opportunity to describe your offerings to all in attendance. You may only offer items for free – we cannot operate a cash sale at the Library. If you hear about an item you want, speak up right there and then, and it’s yours!

ARBITRATION – If more than one person want a specific item, they have to describe what they want to do with it, and the group votes.

SOCIALIZE 8:00± – After everyone’s had a chance to show their stuff, roam around, ask questions, and enjoy some light snacks.

CLEANUP and RECYCLE 8:40 – Reuse is the intent of this event, but if there’s leftover gear nobody wants, Access Recycling of Loveland has offered to take it all free of charge, even batteries! The only exception is cathode-ray-tubes. If you’d like to recycle a CRT, please contribute $8.

Lee Lasson and Blake Robertson have volunteered to help take recycle items to Loveland on March 1.  Thanks guys!  If you’d also like to help, please let me know.

I have already attempted to use Wine, but the complexity of this ActiveX application goes beyond what Wine is capable of doing.

Ideally I’d like to make this a browser app, but can ultimately use my app on either MacOS X or Debian/CentOS.

Reminder — On Monday, February 4, at 7:00 pm in the Hondius Room at the Estes Valley Public Library, EPICUG is pleased once again to welcome Jeff Gamet, Managing Editor for the Mac Observer, back to give us a overview of MacWorld 2013.  MacWorld/iWorld is the annual end-of-January convention in San Francisco for Apple-centric developers, users and the press.  Jeff will be fresh back from his trip, so we’ll hear news from him before it’s available though many other channels.  Please help us support our guest speaker on February 4.  All EPICUG meetings and events are free and open to the public.
