The first EPICUG meeting 2/27/96 was a success!

Thirty plus attended the first EPICUG meeting. The display device and the large TV/VCR failed to sync with the presentation computer. That didn't stop us from covering some ground and answering some questions. You can see the slides and the links from the meeting at http://estes.on-line.com/epicug/

We covered the basics of connecting, and looked at many of the new features in Netscape 2.0 like Java, Live3D, Real Audio, Acrobat Amber, and Shockwave. We also talked to someone on the Internet Phone who really wanted to know what speed modem we were using and ask us a dozen times. I think that person must have been surprised when all at the meeting said "hello!" And then asked what speed modem we were using. It could have been a language problem!

We also had a few unanswered questions like:

"How do you make Windows95 Dial-up Networking save the password when the check box is grayed out".

"How can I get email service for just $20 and year?"

"Why does my video accelerator have to be disabled when using the modem?"

We had reports from a couple webmasters that they are getting response to their pages. One was the Bob Buford of Rocky Mountain Nature Association who mentioned 500 calls on the order line from their web presence and said the web is working for their organization. Eric Blackhurst said his Estes Park Real Estate site has received 3 contacts in the first several days of being on-line at Estes Park On-Line.

We had volunteers to coordinate publicity, to help with by-laws, and possibly even a treasurer. Others volunteered to do sessions about FreeNets, and many said they want to help any way they can. I think we are on the way to having a very active and fun group.

If you (or any of your friends) would like to be included in meeting announcements and follow-ups, send email to epicug@on-line.com and you will get the latest info in response to your email and we will add you to our email announcement list.

Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 1996 at 7:00 PM in the EP Library. If you would like to make a presentation to the group at a future meeting or volunteer to help us organize, please email lee@on-line.com. Be sure to check in often on the Estes Park WebBoard between meetings where the meeting continues!
